Songs Focus on Mental Health Advocacy, Showing the Expressive Power of Punk
Every now and then, you walk into Churchill’s Pub on any random day of the week, and you find musicians who happily surprise you with their talent. In other words, they rock! It reminds you why live music venues still matter. They provide a stage to nurture promising local bands. One such band is Red Light District (@official.redlightdistrict).

Fronted by Lexi, a songstress with powerful and haunting, melodies, and backed by Tony on guitar, killing it with striking solos, the band blends head-banging metal with dance-inducing tunes.

Tyler lends equally powerful strings and a grounding vocal counterpart to Lexi’s ethereal, yet poignant lullabies. The two sing in unison, orchestrating a string of tunes that rhyme recklessly with the rock performance.

The steady heart pumping the pounding beat that holds it together belongs to drummer Luca while Eoin on bass keeps the vibes deep, a balance to Lexi’s high-pitched, almost angelic sweet sounds. This is one band to watch out for. Luckily, they’re releasing an EP soon, Chained by Your Crown, which raises awareness about domestic violence.

Enjoy a video and photograph recap of their show below.

Message from the Band:
Lexi started out as a church singer, but after moving, she lost that outlet. She went online and began posting auditions for band members, and that’s how we all met. We connected over music right away. I think if we didn’t meet online we would have never crossed each other’s paths!
We knew early on that we wanted to play heavy music since majority of the band preferred it. We started by covering bands like The Cranberries and Evanescence and played our first show through a friend. Over time, we grew into a consistently playing band and began writing and performing our own original music.
We’re currently working on our EP, Chained by Your Crown, which focuses on surviving domestic violence. Our songs center on mental health and advocacy. Heavy music helped us survive things we couldn’t talk about, and this band exists to give that same outlet to other people. There’s nothing more punk than that. 🙂
