Recently arriving in Miami from Peru, Carlo Barbacci is bringing his psychedelic, synth-heavy pop music to the local scene.
In his recent release Me & My Dreams, Carlo spins the absurd into a psychedelic trip of sound that gets audiences moving around. With a Beatlesque vibe, the young musician from Peru plays the guitar and sings with the intensity of an entire band.
The video for one of the singles “Massturbasong!” shows some of the humor the artist implements into his trippy elements. Along with the groovy tunes, the storyline mixes horror with ridiculous, surreal imagery. It’s shocking yet hilarious.
Carlo is just getting started so we are excited to see what he will do. We got a chance to chat with him about his life and art.
Miami Chronicles: Where did you grow up and how did you get into music?
Carlo Barbacci: I grew up in Lima Peru. I was also born there. I got into music at a very early age, probably 10 years old. I really enjoyed playing the guitar. The Band that got me into playing was The Beatles.
MC: When did you begin to perform for live audiences?
CB: I started performing at age 14 with a band I wrote the music for Called “Mosh.” The album is still on Soundcloud. The producer of that band was also the producer of a Beatles tribute band called “Los Rigbys,” and he got me performing there as well. So that’s how I started gigs.
MC: When did you get to Miami? How do you like the scene here?
CB: I got to Miami at the beginning of 2018, so I’ve been here for a little longer than a year. The scene is good. There are so many bands, so much going on, so much to do. I have already worked with some musicians from the Miami scene like Soleil Bravo, Juanchi Zeta, and others. Juanchi’s solo album, which I recorded, mixed and co-produced is coming out very soon!
MC: How would you describe your sound or genre?
CB: My genre is definitely Rock
I try to create a fusion of many elements in music (rock, punk, jazz, psychedelia, among others). I also usually enjoy recording synths, pads, samplers, among other experimental ideas. It’s all about being as original as possible to me, but I am aware that becoming original is a process that involves a lot of studying and practice. I hope I will get there someday.
MC: What do you have in store in terms of video releases, upcoming albums, and events?
CB: I have been releasing singles for my upcoming album “Me & My Dreams” which just came out in the second week of May. Some of the singles are already available in every music platform. I also released a music video for the first single I released “Massturbasong!” You can watch it on youtube. If you follow me on social media you will find some of the gigs I do in Churchill’s or Las Rosas. The album was fully recorded, produced, mixed by me in my home studio.
The album is available on Soundcloud, Itunes, and Youtube. You can follow Carlo at @nicefuckinggame on Instagram.
